THE RELATIVES OF THE CHILDREN OF BULLENHUSER DAMM

Family Zylberberg

Ruchla’s mother and sister were murdered in Auschwitz concentration camp. Ruchla’s father Nison survived the war and emigrated to the USA. When the series “The SS Doctor and the Children” was published in the magazine “stern” in 1979, the Zylberberg family of Hamburg discovered Ruchla’s photograph amongst images of the 20 children. Her father died in 2002, but his daughter Frieda, born after the war, has made the journey from Texas, USA to the remembrance ceremony several times. Ruchla’s aunt Felicja, who died in 2011, was one of the founders of the Children of Bullenhuser Damm Association and was a member of the board for many years. Her children, Alexander Zylberberg and Rosa Judkewiz take part in the ceremony every year.
