Bullenhuser Damm memorial and rose garden for the Children of Bullenhuser Damm

The memorial, which was opened in 1980, is located in the basement of the former school building at Bullenhuser Damm 92-94. Behind the school building is a rose garden which was planted by the association the Children of Bullenhuser Dam and could be extended. Anyone may plant a rose bush in memory of the victims.

By extending the memorial into additional parts of the cellars, it was possible to open a new exhibition on 20 April 2011 which was freshly conceived with a modern design done by the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. The exhibition tells the story of the children and their attendants murdered here. However very little is known about the Soviet prisoners who were hanged and shot in Bullenhuser Damm on the same night. The bilingual exhibition (German/English) provides information about the history of the building as a school, as a satellite of Neuengamme Concentration Camp and as a memorial; about the persecution and deportation of Jewish people in countries occupied by the German armed forces; about medical experiments at Neuengamme Concentration Camp, the perpetrators and the history of remembrance of those crimes. The area of the cellar where the murders took place can be reached along a corridor.

Mobile Exhibition

The Children of Bullenhuser Damm association has put together a mobile exhibition for children and adolescents which can be borrowed by schools, public institutions, etc. in return for payment of the transport expenses.
